The problem is solved of the evenness of the O-Ring

The Purchasing Manager of a German company in the Automation sector, contacted us in 2014 , at that time not our Client yet, to let us know about a problem with the O-Ring which they had bought from a dealer.

PROBLEMS IN THE ASSEMBLY OF THE O-RING ON THE LEADING PRODUCT WITH CONSEQUENT SLOWING DOWN AND IN SOME SITUATIONS STOPPAGE OF PRODUCTION.

Product: O-Ring | Produzione O-RIng. / Application: Automazione/Elettronica / Compound: NBR - butadiene acrilonitrile | Mescole NBR per guarnizioni

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM

The Client bought the O-Ring with special dimensions destined to be assembled automatically on connectors.

The production Manager had found problems in assembly due to the unevenness of the O-Ring.

The Purchasing Manager contacted the supplier, his referent in the deal, but who could not find a thorough solution to the problem.

The Purchasing Office at this point thought about bypassing the dealer and contacting a referred manufacturer and thus the company contacted TS International®.

OUR SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM

Once the inspection had been done and the problem understood, we produced a perfectly even O-Ring thanks to a productive cycle studied specially for the requirements of our clients.

In particular the problem can occur either in the finishing phase or in the storage. When the gaskets are left for a long time in not ideal containers, they lose their evenness.

To remedy this problem, durin the production, a maximum quantity of pieces has been defined for each box and the maximum stationary time for the O-Rings between each finishing phase. Subsequently we have studied a packaging ad hoc, using "speciale" boxes, containing a limited quantity of gaskets.

We have thus found the solution to the problem that for the client meant the assembly of the finished product without having any more stoppages in production.

MORAL OF THE CASE STUDY

We advice companies to be careful when they choose their supplier of gaskets, above all when they are dealing with a leading product. If they rely only on the price, the risks of receiving a product not adapted to their requirements and not being able to find the ideal solution are very high.

The consequence is the risk of increasing, exponentially, the total cost of the product.

[Official Data] The Client relied on TS INTERNATIONAL® for the supply of gaskets for their leading product.
